Burning Man

What is Burning Man
Burning Man is an annual art festival held in the northern Nevada desert each Labor Day. It is a commercial free venue for artists (big and small) to exhibit their work in an outdoor interactive envirionment. Burning Man is also about survival, community, radical self expression, participation, gifting, and having fun while being safe and respectful (to people, to the event, and to the environment). My History at Burning Man
I first attended Burning Man in 2000 with a 100+ of my closest friends. We created a huge dance camp called The Illuminaughty. The Illuminaughty was a hit and and we returned in 2001 and 2002. While we still call our community "The Illuminaughty" (or naughties for short), we haven't brought a public camp back to burning man since 2002. At Burning Man 2001, I also worked with some friends to adapt and construct a communial shelter/shade structure known as Quiet Camp. Quiet camp was a great retreat from the ever pounding trance beats of our public space. When we decided not to build a Illuminaughty camp in 2003, I wanted to focus on art. I also wanted to get more involved in the larger community and the organization. In 2003 I joined up with the fabulous ladies of the Cafe Decor team to help to create the 50,000 sq foot lounge at the center of the city known as Center Camp Cafe. I also became an honorary member of the Burning Man web team that year as I took on the documentation of playa artifacts (all those cool gifts that people give each other). In 2003, I was also involved in several art projects. Some frineds and I built "The Wheels of Incantation", a set of four giant prayer wheels, and I constructed the "Zip Tie Mandala", with a little bit of last minute help from my friends and family. In 2004 and 2005 I continued documenting playa artifacts and stepped up my contributions to the cafe. At the same time, I branched out into more conceptual, interactive, and silly art pieces and stunts.
